FAQ
Resin
Water treatment
The demand of ion Exchange Resin in water treatment is very large; it is about 90% of total production. Using in pure water treatment for firepower is the most part and then is atomic energy, semiconductor and electronic industries.
Food industry
Ion Exchange Resin also can be applied to food industry, like syrup, monosodium glutamate (MSG) and win producing/refining. For instance, High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) producing, which is extract starch from corn and then have hydrolysis reacting and there comes to dextrose and fructose. After ion exchanging, HFCS is produced. Consumption of ion exchange resin in food industry is only second to water treatment.
Medicine producing industry
It is an important element for developing and improving new antibiotic. Streptomycin was developed successfully is a good example. Recently, ion exchange resin also can be applied to Chinese medicine producing.
Synthetic chemical and petrochemical industry
In organic synthesis, it is common that using acid and alkali as a catalyst for esterification, hydrolysis, transesterification, hydration … etc. With an ion exchange resin instead of inorganic acid and alkali, the above reaction can be carried out as well, furthermore, with more advantages. Resin can be used repeatedly, the product can easily be separated and controlled, the reactor cannot be corroded, also it cannot pollute environment. The processing of producing methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is using macroporous ion exchange resin as a catalyst, reacting by isobutene and methanol. This resin is instead of tetraethyl lead which may cause serious pollution of the environment.
Environmental
Ion exchange resins have been used in many environmental issues with great concern. Currently, a number of aqueous or non-aqueous solutions containing ionic or non-ionic toxic substance, these substances can be recycled by using resin, such as removing the metal ion in plating waste and recycling useful substances in movie producing waste.
Hydrometallurgy and others
Ion exchange resin can separate, concentrate, purify uranium and extract rare earth elements and precious metals from depleted uranium mines.
